Comcast / Xfinity Scams

Brand imposter · TelecomLast updated: September 2026

Everyone with a cable or internet bill knows two things: the bill is high, and the company runs promotions. A "loyalty discount" call from Comcast therefore sounds entirely plausible. The scam works because it resembles something the real company might actually do.

How Comcast / Xfinity is being impersonated

comcast scam call

Popular impersonation lures to pay attention to:

The loyalty-discount call

Someone claiming to be Comcast, often with a spoofed caller ID, offers 50% off for 12 to 24 months if you prepay several months up front via gift cards, Zelle, or a prepaid card. Victims often see a temporary discount genuinely applied (the scammer logs a fake promotion or uses a stolen card), so everything feels legitimate until the account reverts and the prepayment is gone.

Past-due disconnection texts

"Your service will be disconnected today," timed for evenings and weekends, when calling support feels out of reach and paying the link feels easier.

Equipment and refund lures

Calls and emails about a free equipment upgrade or an overbilling refund that need a card number or account login to "process."

Tips for verifying through official channels

  1. 1

Hang up and call 1-800-XFINITY (1-800-934-6489).

Any real promotion, refund, or upgrade will be visible to the agent who answers. Better still, check offers in the Xfinity app under your account.

  2. 2

Check your actual balance in the app before reacting to a "past due" text.

If the app shows you current, the text is a scam.

  3. 3

Let the payment method be the tell.

Comcast never asks for gift cards, Zelle, crypto, or prepayment to activate a discount. When those words appear, hang up and report the call.
